This prestigious club was formed in 1897, but moved to this course in 1960. They have hosted several national and major championships, including the 1965 U.S. Open (Gary Player), the 1981 U.S. Amateur (Jim Holtgrieve), the 1992 PGA Championship (Nick Price), and the 2004 U.S. Senior Open (Peter Jacobsen).
Bellerive CC was also supposed to host the WGC-American Express Championship, but the event was cancelled just hours after the September 11, 2001 Islamic terrorist attacks.
In 2005 and 2006, Bellerive underwent a renovation for infrastructure improvements, but Rees Jones ("The Open Doctor") made some design changes to make an already-challenging course even tougher.
