The course opened in 1909, although the great Alister Mackenzie did a new design of the course in 1927. A short, irons-only range and a warm-net hitting net are available, along with a putting green and practice bunker.

Only very limited opportunities for non-members and golfers from overseas to play the course; advance booking is required. NZ-affiliated golfers pay NZ$75, while non-affiliated golfers pay $150.
