The legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast designed this course, which is located along Long Island's Gold Coast and opened in 1916. The club leased some of the original land for a sand-mining operation, so architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. was brought in to redesign the 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th holes. Architect Gil Hanse was retained in 1994 to restore Tillinghast's original design; this layout opened in the spring of 1996.
