We all know that the phrase 'championship golf course' is overused in marketing hype. But this challenging, venerable DL-area layout could lay legitimate claim to such a label, hosting the very popular Pine to Palm amateur match-play tournament each August.
Detroit CC *is* open to the public and offers some challenging greens and picturesque elevation changes, dressed within a parkland/north woods atmosphere. Rates vary by season, but afternoon, twilight, and shoulder-season rates are all lower.

This course is immaculate. The Pine-to-Palm course is actually the best maintained course I've ever played. I did not see a single blade of brown grass anywhere. It was green and lush. The bunkers were clean and soft. The greens were soft, fast, and true.
And I love the layout. There are really some short holes here that you can score on, but they are not easy. The fairways are narrow with trees lining them.
This is my favorite course, and there is no question that if I lived in the Detroit Lakes area, I would be a member.
