Muirfield is the home of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, a men-only society that dates to 1744, when the club wrote the original 13 Rules of Golf. The Muirfield course itself opened in 1891 and was designed by Old Tom Morris, although English architect Martin Hawtree was retained by the club to oversee some bunker restoration prior to the 2013 Open Championship.
Visitors (including women) are welcome on Tuesdays and Thursdays with advance online reservations. A single round is £190, but two rounds on the same day are £240. Otherwise, this is a private club.

Where not to feel welcome. Rough was so long it was virtually reload if 20 yards left or right.

Played it on Canada Day July 1, 2014, in perfect conditions, sunny skies, very light wind and a temperature of 24C. Everything I expected and more, keep it in the fairway though as the rough is waist high grass.
