Minchinhampton GC was founded in 1889 and now comprises three attractive golf courses that run over the upper reaches of the Cotswolds.
The Avening course comprises 15 holes of the original golf course, which opened in 1975 with a design by Frederick W. Hawtree. When the Cherington course was built in 1995, three holes (the original 1,2 and 3) were added to the Cherington, while three new holes were added to the original which was then named the Avening. These three new holes are numbers 4, 5 and 6. The Cherington hosted the 2007 English Mid-Amateur Championship, as well as Open Championship regional qualifying from 2002 to 2007.
Whenever possible, the club designates one course as a "two-ball" course, with the other a "three/four-ball" course on any particular day. This way, golf proceeds apace with little hold up or need for "calling through."
The standard visitor walking rates for the Avening and Cherington courses are £47 weekdays and £57 on weekends. Various discounts are available for juniors, county card-holders, and for twilight play. Societies are also welcome with prior arrangement.
The Old Course is open only to members and their invited guests.
