Royal Calcutta Golf Club formed in 1829 and advertises as being the oldest golf club in the world outside of the British Isles, the oldest being the Royal and Ancient at St. Andrews. The club was originally located near what is now Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. In 1910, they moved to this location at Tollygunge. In 1911, the club was honored by King George V and Queen Mary, who conferred the "royal" title on the club during their visit to Kolkata (Calcutta).
