Comment taken from the Peugeot Golf Guide
Mid-way between Milan, Varese and the unavoidable Lake Maggiore, Le Robinie is one of Italy's more recent courses and one of the most prestigious too, courtesy of its designer Jack Nicklaus. There are other, less fashionable and perhaps more creative architects, but the Golden Bear label is a quality guarantee even if all his courses do tend to follow more or less the same model, depending on the engineer. On terrain as flat as this, American experience is useful indeed and the excavation work made to contour the course was quite remarkable, including many water hazards in order to recover the earth which has been arranged to form amphitheatres around the holes. A lot of though also went into the shapes of bunkers and greens, giving a very graphic look to the whole layout. From the back tees, this very open and forthright course is for experienced players only. Further forward and you are in for a great day's golfing (edited by http://www.olinadgolf.com)
