The noted Scottish Willie Park, Jr. designed the Old Course, which opened in 1900. The equally-notable Harry S. Colt did the original design of the New Course, which opened in 1923, although the club later purchased additional land, over which Tom Simpson routed new holes in 1937.

Interestingly, this very prestigious club *does* welcome visitors, but advance booking is required. The peak season (April-October) rate for the Old Course is £195, while the New Course rate is £165. Both courses can be played on the same day for £280. Special rates are available for police, fire, and ambulance personnel, as well as for clergy.
