This course is owned by the City of Houston, but operated by Lopez Golf Management. It opened in 1924 with 9 sand greens as Rio Rita Country Club. The course was later acquired by the city and opened to the public. Robert McKinney did a redesign of the course in 1983.
Among the history here, Al Espinosa won the Houston Open here in 1929.
