Forest Akers is home to two 18-hole courses, a learning center, a practice range with covered area for winter use, a short-game facility, and two golf shops — one each for the East and West courses. The West 18 is the home course for the Michigan State University Spartan golf teams and hosts tournaments for both the men's and women's teams each year. Both courses were redesigned and renovated in the late 1990s by architect Arthur Hills, himself a Michigan State alumnus.

The public walking rates on the West course are $36 on weekdays, $40 on weekends (carts are $12). Student, staff, alumni, junior, senior, shoulder-season, and East course discounts are available.
